Formulae or Equation editing is a weakness of all Social Networking Sites. The HTML editor for blog and discussion posts and comments does not support superscript, subscript or Greek letters. Addition of these to the toolbar of the text editor would be very helpful for discussing mathematics and physics equations and concepts. Some web sites, e.g. LinkedIn and Friendster do not support any HTML editing. Hi5.com supports some HTML, but you need to code it by hand, or edit it offline in an HTML editor like Kompozer, and paste into the edit box. Hi5.com corrupts some equations, because it interprets the less-than symbol as an HTML tag, and is almost useless for posting complex messages as it does not have preview, edit or delete. The need to express equations goes back to the days of FORTRAN and ALGOL programming. A well known solution is to write x-squared as x^2, and the square root of x as x^.5, (x to the power of one half). Better formatting is needed, because these representations might not be familiar to everyone. Anyone interested in maths or physics is welcome to join in this
